Hi, I'm Liza.
I never thought I’d end up in the hair industry; it never even crossed my mind. I was working as a line cook, loving the hands-on aspects of the work, but something about the food industry just didn’t click for me. One night, while talking to my Dad about what to do next, he said, “You’re creative, great with people, and love business. Have you ever thought about hair school?” It was one of those “aha” moments. The very next day, I toured every hair school in Toronto and enrolled at the Aveda Institute.
I hit the ground running when I graduated in 2019, but I quickly realized that the world of textured and curly hair was totally overlooked. I knew I wanted to do better for my clients, so I took it upon myself to dive deep into training specifically for those hair types.
Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with shag haircuts: shape can really change everything. Clients started telling me their cuts lasted longer, needed little to no styling, and just felt right, and that’s when it hit me: this was the kind of hair people wanted, effortless, low-maintenance, and self-affirming.
The whole “embrace your natural hair” thing with a 15-step routine just to make it look natural never sat right with me. I wanted to help people wear their hair in a way that felt easy, true to who they are, and didn’t require a ton of effort.
That’s when I started Liza’s Locks. I began sharing my approach on TikTok, Instagram, and Youtube, offering detailed consultations and listening to what people actually wanted from their hair. The response was overwhelming. People want to be heard—they want a simpler, more authentic way to care for their hair. And I’m here to make that happen.
